Established under the leadership of the Rectorate of Bartın University and the Department of History, the Bartın and Neighborhoods History & Culture Research & Application Center (BAYTAM) conducts studies aimed at revealing the historical memory of the region by taking into account the historical, cultural, and social heritage of Bartın and its surroundings.
The Center ensures the identification, acquisition, preservation, and scientific evaluation of all kinds of documents, information, and materials related to the region, covering the historical period from Antiquity to the Republican Era. In this context, it aims to uncover the historical, cultural, and social accumulation of the region and to document the urban memory. In addition, BAYTAM encourages and supports theoretical, methodological, and applied studies developed in line with the principles of cultural heritage preservation and social responsibility.
BAYTAM aims to:
Organize scientific meetings, symposia, workshops, and panels at national and international levels,
Encourage urban memory and oral history studies; collect written, visual, and audio materials; establish a specialized library, archive, and oral history collection within the Center; and acquire manuscripts and printed works through donation, purchase, and reproduction,
Publish theses conducted at universities as well as other scientific studies within the Center’s field of activity; and develop collaborations with national and international institutions in this regard,
Support scientific research, particularly in the fields of local history, urban studies, and cultural heritage, in line with the Center’s objectives,
Cooperate with academic and cultural institutions conducting similar activities both nationally and internationally.
Vision
To become a leading research and application center that addresses the history, culture, and literature of Bartın and its surroundings through an interdisciplinary approach; contributes to scientific production, academic collaboration, and social development; and is recognized as a reference institution at national and international levels in regional studies.
Mission
To conduct research and studies on the history, literature, folklore, and cultural heritage of Bartın and its surroundings; to share scientific findings with academic communities and the public through publications; and to contribute to the preservation and development of regional cultural memory by organizing scientific events such as symposia, panels, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
